I just very recently got a bamboo steamer. They are super cute, very instagrammable, cheap & eco so you should definitely get one! I never had a steamer before so if you don't have a steamer at home here's how you can steam anything, from vegetables to Bao's with only a few things you already have in your kitchen!
You will need :
- A big pot, or casserole with the lid
- A small plate (any plate that fits into your casserole)
- A small ramekin (or bowl, or cup), basically something a bit high and smaller than the plate
- A cloth
Wrap the lid of your pot with the cloth. This is very important because when you steam the water will condensate on the lid, and as a result water will drip all over your food and make it soggy. The cloth will capture the water condensation.
Bring a bit of water to a big boil in the pot. Once its boiling turn off the heat or leave it on low heat and put the ramekin in. You can either put a bit of water in it first to make it sink, or just turn it upside down. And no worries, the ramekin will not break or explode! Just be careful not to burn yourself with the hot water.
Place whatever you want to steam on the plate, and put the plate on the ramekin.
Put the lid back on and steam!
I hope this was helpful :)
